biting cat

Do cats bite to show affection?

I have noticed my cat Jasper "bite" Ruby on the leg once when they were both on the bed with me. All he did was put his mouth on her leg, I had assumed he was trying to get her to play with him, but I had also pushed him away before he would have had a chance to actually bite. There was no provocation, they were both lying on the bed quietly.

Today Jasper walked over, I was sat on the floor. He laid down next to my leg, then I felt him lean on it... then he bit me. Not hard, he didn't get through my jeans, and I hadn't moved, nothing had scared him and he looked completely relaxed.

It would be nice to think he did it because he liked me... I have only had him a few months and he is 2-3 years old. He is generally very affectionate towards everyone.
