Cat pooping on clothes

I've had my cat for 7 years. She was 7-9 when we found her. I got a dog about 6 months ago, which she's never liked. She's been a perfect cat up til now.
I just went to do laundry and found out she pooped, 3 times, on a pile of my clothes. (which have been there for a few days) She's also been pooping in her littlebox as she usually does.
She's never done anything remotely close to this.
Any ideas?

Have you changed brands of cat litter or placement of litterbox lately? Is the box very clean? My mom's cat wouldn't use the box if there was even one turd in it. Sometimes other changes in routine could make a cat poop inappropriately. Also have a stool sample checked at the vets.

Gosh, I imagine you were livid. LOL

It could be that the cat is upset with you and stressed out about the dog...
They will do things like that to show you how upset they are. A vet visit could be in order to rule out medical problems though, especially with an older cat. If they have urinary tract infection they will start using the bathroom in inappropriate places.

It does sound stress related. You may want to try baby gating a room or room off so the cat can feel more secure.

Re: Cat pooping on clothes

We have had this, and it's only when our cat's really stressed and it's always on my husband's items! I would check to make sure kitty can get to her litter box (in all of our cases there was something blocking her way to the box--Thanksgiving dinner (lots of people), birthday party (lots of people), etc.). Any way, each experience was related to not feeling comfortable running through a group of people to get to her box.

Re: Cat pooping on clothes

My youngest boy cat did this and 2 pee incidents b/c of puppy stress. Ozzie loves his daddy's attention very much (could care less about me) and when he feels like Lilly the pup is getting more attention this is how he tells us. To remedy it we make sure his litter box is spotless and he gets scheduled play/cuddle time each night if possible.

Re: Cat pooping on clothes

Yep, stress will do it, and that comes along with any changes in their environment (a big deal with cats, who do NOT like change)! My twenty-something old girl, Babe, was miffed when I brought Maddy home as a 9 wk. old puppy. Babe would pee in CLEAN laundry. Sigh. She adjusted well enough, and could even be found snuggling up asleep with Maddy. When Bo was added to the family, Babe nailed a basket of clean laundry again, and again, and again! The lesson learned was to make sure I didn't allow her access to clean laundry! Thank God for OdoBan! LOL (BTW, she got over it. It just takes time.)
