How do you identify a responsible cat breeder?

my sister has her heart dead set on a purebred Ocicat.

I was just wondering what we should look for in a breeder. What kind of health testing ex cetera ex cetera.....?

Don't know if this helps, but there is a wealth of info here.

Basically, the same things you'd look for in a dog breeder, just different tests... they should test for and be negative for Feline Leuk and Aids, as starters

Have you ever gone to a cat show in your area? You can meet many breeders, there, and get their cards and info. You can also join cat forums, and people can give you suggestions. Make sure to research the breed.

Also, I LOVE Ocicats, and when I go looking to own my first, there are certain things I'll be looking for. Temperment, for sure. They are playful by nature, and I definately want a very playful, active cat, but I don't want it to be mean or bitey.

We are planning on heading to a cat show as soon as it's feasable because I figure that would be the best place to find a breeder.

What I really want to know about is health testing. I'm not finding much on that site but maybe I'm missing it....?

Re: How do you identify a responsible cat breeder?

I was curious about the same thing. I went searching for what kind of tests you do to cats because even though I know a lot of cat breeders I have never ever heard of any tests being done prior to breeding like you do with dogs. So, I made a thread on my cat forum about it and asked the "experts". And this is what I got:
