So, I have three dogs but they are in Oregon right now so I felt looneely..And decided to get a bird..

This is why you never give your children allowances Especially ones who know how to save up small quantities of money in a short time to amount to an incredibly large amount..To be blown in three short days

They will bring home small creatures like me

Please excuse the mess, just got back from my trip and still getting things in order (that side table used to hold the cage which is now on my bookshelf).

I got Caesar on Thursday

And Alpha- So far I am doing wonderfully in school. All my teachers are awesome and funny. I believe I am going to enjoy it here~ Much more different than High School. People actually CARE about their education.

How long have you had him? He seems really used to you allready.

"Used to me" is an understatement.. When I put him in his cage to..well, do this lol, browse the interwebs..he skitters over on the top bar, slides to the bottom of the cage, and runs back and forth rattling on the bars for me.. Or the pretty colors on my laptop.. I like to think its for me and won't stop until I come over, and then he is climbing all over the front bars trying to get to me, trying to shove his furry little head through the bars, so I can't help but take him out again..

I got him..Last thursday, I believe the 22nd? I went to the store and picked him up The next night around 1:30 in the morning I came home to blood on the upper bars of his cage and him at the bottom with a black nub and blood sticking out of his wing.

Rushed him to the vet almost in tears (I hardly ever cry..Maybe once or twice a year? If that? Makes my eyes turn red and puffy. I don't like it.) to find out that it wasn't broken but one of his blood feathers was broken. The vet pulled it out and clipped his other wing and told me to get him (since he is 14 weeks old) on pellets right away so he will convert easier.

$95.00 later (So far over $300 spent on Caesar in less than four days ><) we are back home and he won't leave my shoulder. Even when I go outside for various reasons. He just huddles in my hair..eating it, and my necklace, and my earrings..So cute

I'm glad he was okay!

What causes them to get so attatched, does he just like you, or are they all like that?

Well, both in a way.

He was hand-raised and is tame. Only bites when you come at him from the front and want to pet his head from the front. And it is more licking/warning than anything which I am SURE will pass over time. I can already stroke the back of his head. But he is very human friendly and perceives emotions/tone inflictions and such.

Also, birds like parakeets, cockatiels/toos, parrots in generals, captive shoulder birds in general get attached easily and quickly to their owners.

In some/most cases, the bird will attack anyone/thing that gets near their owner lol. I try to avoid that by socializing him frequently with random visitors (pool lady, garage repairman, mom's friends, my friends, my brother's friends, etc) and my family. As cute and adorable it may be to have a defensive bird..I want to share him with others too.

Plus, they perceive you as their flock, and that is a lasting bond. Especially since I feed him from my hand and he accepts it..it is a sign of a VERY trusting bond. And since his wings are clipped, he is SOLELY dependent upon me.

I give him food, hold him up to drink from his dish whenever I put him back in his cage, clean his cage..I am his one and only hope for a life.

They aren't like dogs where they adapt to different surroundings and ownership. They WILL starve themselves if their food isn't what they like, they WILL become aggressive without human contact or interaction, and such.

Yeah I used to like chill around my friends house years back and they had a lot of birds.

They had a cockatoo, it was really smart and nice, but then they had an African Grey Parrot and it wouldn't let anyone near it even though they raised it as a chick..

I feel so sorry for those birds that sit in cages and never get to come out because the people fergot to hold them so they get mean =[ I have friends like that...animals shouldn't be just something to look at..It's nice to see you giving him lots of love =D

What a pretty bird... glad you spent the extra dough and got a hand fed bird. To many people don't and then scare the heck out of the thing. He seems to really like you.

Hehe yes Now whenever I am in my room he HAS to sit on my shoulder or be with me in some way. He definitely loves me and I him. It is a shame people think they are ornaments =/

And yeah Crio I was looking into a parakeet first but after the untamed 15 dollar one flew away from me, I took a look at the tame 75 ones.. But then was like..Why not the extra $5 and get a cockatiel? SOO worth the money to get a tame bird..I hate to say this, but I doubt I would take him to the vet if the same situation happened with the untamed parakeet..I'd take him back =/ I would not have had the bond as I do with little Caesar.

Helps also that the price of the bird and cage was flipped.. 80 for bird, 30 for a huge white cage.. Works out in the end really.

SCORE!! $30??? When i had finches a had to borrow a cage and they had paid som'thing like 80-90 bucks for the thing....

They actually had tame parakeets?

Ooooh, I love 'Tiels! Caesar is handsome!

Sadly, "my" 'Tiel hates me. I don't understand why, but every time I walk by his cage he hisses at me and tries to attack me. He'll accept a head rub or he'll perch on my finger if he is in a good mood, but he's gotten grumpy with me. He LOVES everyone else, just not me. So he has become my mom's bird. He doesn't get as much out of cage time as she should (plenty of human interaction, just not a lot of out of cage time) so I'm going to be getting a new cage (this one, I think: http://www.birdscomfort.com/bird_aviary_cage.html) for free from the lady I adopted Dot and Louie from. I think he'll enjoy it.

That cage is HUGE!! Whoa!

I am sure he will be happier in that oO but all you can do is keep trying and be persistent.. Maybe he will come around?

And yeah it was $40 originally but we had a coupon that made it $30. It is really long and twice the size tall.. So it is a duplex oO

Basically, you know those long white cages at petco? For like $50 or so dollars? Put one more on top of it and that is the cage.

The next size up was over $80 or I would have gotten the floor cage

Oh yeah, they had two tame parakeets.

The last time I had birds, I got my parakeet from another bird place and it was tame as well. But from then on I got them from petco and they were vicious so I opted for the tame one.. Well, tame cockatiel
