| Re: Fishies!!!! Hi, your thread has been completely hijacked, but if you don't mind, OK.
As far as the cycling of your tank, just keep testing the amonia and nitrites and nitrates. Make sure you keep adding a small amount of amonia each day. If the level is up just add a few drops, but you need to keep feeding the bacteria. Once the nitrites start up it will probably go much quicker than the ammonia stage. BE PATIENT. I know this is terrible, but it will be worth it. |

The only time I mind hijacking is when the OP isn't answered. So I don't mind it in this case |

| Re: Fishies!!!! Congrats! Decide on fish yet? Besides the betta which keeps being mentioned you could go with a small group of pygmy corys for the bottom. They are small catfish which get to about 1" max, with the betta in a filtered 3 gallon this would divide the levels up a bit. |

| Re: Fishies!!!! Some small fish i would suggest are small tetras, a single betta, african dwarf frogs (very cute to watch), platies (same sex so no overpopulation in weeks), no plecos ( they all get to big for that tank), pygmy cories if u can find them...ect. |

No pics yet...I keep forgetting to ask hubby to take and help me post some. I've been sooo extremely busy with school and church.
So far so good though. We have a bubby-making thing that we had on at first, but it seemed like the current was way too strong so we turned it off. Hubby mentioned something about getting one that doesn't make as many bubbles, cause they did like swimming in them, we just noticed they had to swim hard throughout the whole tank.
Hubby keeps talking about getting another one since they are suppost to be in groups of 3 (at least thats what the sign at the store said) and we only got 2. That and I think he just wants another one, lol. So I told him I would ask.....so I'm asking...
Is 3 platys too many platys for a 3gal tank?
So they are doing good...I'll try to post some pics soon |

| Re: Fishies!!!! Generally I wouldn't recommend platies for that small a tank to begin with. However in answer to your question, yes I think 3 platies is too much for a 3 gallon tank. That would definitely put your tank on overload if it isn't already. Frequent water changes will definitely be necessary. |

| Re: Fishies!!!! We used to have a 46 gals fish tank which we just replaced last Sunday. Our fishes are getting bigger and the old tank being small is stressing them out. I used to have 6 freshwater sharks, 2 pictus, 2 columbians and 2 Id's. I also had one pleco. When we moved to our house a year and a half ago, 4 of my sharks died and my pleco. I was left with 2 sharks, the columbian and the Id, Dh bought me 2 cories and a pleco. My pleco died after a few months.
Last Saturday, one of my little cories died. I panicked because the others were acting strange as well. DH immediately went online and looked for slightly used fish tank and found a 90gals which suited our budget (we dont really have a budget, it was emergency! LOL!).
So, we finished setting up our tank last Saturday after 6 hrs of non stop cleaning. Our fishes are now happier and much more relaxed. Dh bought me another pleco and a pictus shark. We are probably sticking to 5 fishes until we get a bigger tank. My sharks need to grow a bit more, the small fish tank stunted their growth. =)
This is our new and improved tank.. 90gals
This is FOX my columbian..
my baby pictus IGOR..
I still have to take a pic of my pleco.. he's hiding somewhere!!! =P

EDIT~~Wait, wait, you named them Phillipe and Maria? Does that mean you for sure have a boy and a girl? =/ I hope not... |

Emily, are you sure you have a male and female? They tend to multiply very quickly and easily. |
