The horses

Man o man, they keep me busy ( and broke lol)
I just keep on horse shopping. So far we have spent well over $2000 just on "stuff" for them and there is still saddles, bridles, bits, farrier services, vet stuff and so on...
So worth it though.
Me and Fay had a bit of an issue this week, I wasnt feeling well and she spooked me a bit so I was a little weary around her, she picked up on this and decided she was now to be "boss mare"...
Didnt take much to get my position back from her though and now we are getting along great.
We decided to name the filly Venna, its been 2 days now that she isnt afraid of me anymore and has become quite the pest. If you walk into the pasture, shes there, and she follows and leans and gets in the way alot, but shes just learning.
And learning fast. Yesterday I was able to get her halter on her for the first time, she didnt mind this new contraption one bit on her face.
Today I have managed to pick up and briefly hold each hoof , lift her tail and play around with her mouth a bit. I think these 2 horses are going to be great for a first timer like me.

Well, enough about that for now, and on to the pics.
A really nice shot of Fays eye, They've grown on me alot and really she wouldnt be the same without them (clearly)

Re: The horses

Oh cute! Venna is ADORABLE!! Can I have her? Please? Puuulease??

I love Fay's eye too. Blue eyes on a horse is fantastic.

That picture of Venna itching made me grin.

LOL Love all the whisker shots. Love little horse babies. She has a nice little butt. Pretty solid little gal. They sure grow fast. Take lots of pictures. Pretty name too, by the way.

Re: The horses

Thanks...
And no Twinny, no one can have her, I've waited my whole life thus far for these 2 gurls and its going to be some time or some horrible event that takes them away from me.

Inga, she is a solid little one indeed. And such a pest too lol

I was leading Fay around the pasture a bit and Venna was just trotting along behind her when out of no where, she tares off in this bucking jumping rampage around the enclosure atleast 3 times, each pass by us jumping higher and bucking more, then went into the center and crashed out. *shrugs shoulders* I have no idea what that was about. Fay either, we just carried on with our little walk session worked on some backing up, feet handling, standing tied and then I let her go. Venna was snoring in the grass in the middle. Shes odd

I see a great little Barrel racer in the making with Venna honestly. She has excellent movement already (however a tad clumsy on those stilts she has for legs) There is a little rocket somewhere in her that she switches on and is GONE like the wind and she really isnt afraid of new things now that she trusts me.

I'm going to keep my eye on her to see if this indeed would be something to get her into later on, I hope so *crosses fingers*

Re: The horses

They are both beautiful, I love the filly. She is built very nice.

Oh yes, stilts...my two year old colt was the same way at her age, thus his nickname was 'Stilts'....they do eventually grow into those long legs

Are you leaving the halter on the young one? I would consider leaving it off of her(looks like a nylon halter which can get caught easily).

Re: The horses

I leave it on during the times I'm out side with them and wandering around in general but I take both of them off for them when I'm not here. Never really thought about them getting caught?? I just want Fay to get a break from them as the one she had on was too small so she has a few "wounds" of sorts that I want to heal, and I take Vennas off so she can get used to me taking it off and putting it on, like its no big deal.

I want to get them both rope halters, when would be a good time for Venna to have one of them?

Re: The horses

The problem with Nylon halters is they don't breakaway if they snag it on something...and with the real young ones(who seem to stick their heads through everything) I always worry about that.

I personally like to wait until they are closer to two to use a rope halter on them. Mostly because of the pressure points on rope halters, and baby heads are so fragile. I did let my guy wear one a few times as a long yearling, it certainly didn't hurt him(but I was also careful not to over correct with it). In most situations, he is in just a regular halter right now(I believe his is a breakaway halter, too).

They're beautiful!!!! I love the mare's blue eye, that's something you don't see everyday. I'm assuming she only has one blue eye?

Re: The horses

No actually both of them are the same, and placed right in the brown too, makes it stick out so much more than when they are in white.

Re: The horses

Both girls are lovely!! Gotta love those paints. Not sure what you're little girl's color will turn out (it that roaning I see on her shoulder?) Fay is a flashy girl with her beautiful blues eyes. Worked for my old trainer at her farm, her daughter's paint pony (black and white), had blue eyes, too. Congratulations on your new girls.
