| From the info at the site you provided, plus linked to several others 1 goldfish in a ten gal tank is ok. Also if you read everything we were talking about, I said as it got bigger it would need to move up to a bigger tank. Also ownedbysix also said they were going to put tim in a larger tank when it got bigger. I respect that you have your views but with access to my computer I have researched it and 10 gal will provide a single goldfish ample room for quite a while. Why don't we just agree to both cuss people who put goldfish in goldfish bowls. |

PLEASE be responsible and RESEARCH your animals and how to properly care for them BEFORE you decide to buy them. If you can't do it before, do it as soon as possible. There is absolutely no excuse for not researching anything when you have access to a computer.
I am now linking you all to a website that has extreamly good information and knowledgable people. If you have any questions or concerns about anything relating to fish, I bet you'll find it here: www.petfish.net
I forget if we are allowed to advertise sites or not, so sorry if we arn't. I'm just sick of animals not properly being cared for. It's really getting on my nervs. | Wow, I did not know how upset someone would get...the fish is 3 inches long for crying out loud, and the tank is well cared for. The research I DID said that 10 gallons was ample for ONE goldfish, provided he doesn't get too large...in which case I believe I stated I would move him into something larger. The owner of the fish store where I got my tank and supplies has owned this store personally for 40+years, and his fish are all very healthy. I certainly trust his opinion. |

| I'm sure Tim is fine, just save up a bunch so you can get a 120 gal so he can have some friends. |

Sure, he may be little now, but (as I think i've said before) Goldfish do most of their growing within the first two years. If he is in a small tank, and he is trying to grow, the tank size will stunt his growth. His outside will stop growing, and his insides will continue to grow... until he dies. So, yeah... I do tend to have a problem when people think it's perfectly acceptable to keep a fish in a 10g tank so it does not have the proper amount of space to grow and live a healthy life, for as long as it can. Cutting an animals life sort when you don't have to is cruel to me.
I never said you wern't planning on getting a larger tank, and my previous post wasn't even directed at you, it was just me ranting in general. That's great if you are going to buy a larger tank, I just think that was something you should of thought about before getting your fish. And as for the guy who has owned the same pet store for 40 years... that's lovely and all, but even people who have been around for along time can (and do) make mistakes. And the one people make about Goldfish is probably one of the most common. I'm not saying he doesn't know what he is talking about usually, but him telling you that a 10g is alright for a goldfish "provided he doesn't get to big" makes no sense to me... why? Because the Goldfish wont get to big, that's the point-- he wont have a chance to get big, because his growth will be stunted and he will die sooner than he needs to.
I'm sorry if I seem to be coming across as rude, but i've had a very long and frustrating day. I go over this exact information with people constantly and it's getting old. I don't think you are a horrible fish keeper or anything, just a little misinformed..... o.O |

| My husband had fish in a 100 g tank when we lived in the city. when we moved out here, much of the house was in remodel mode, so he never set it back up. When he does, he will go salt water. |

| I have a 33 gl. tank (which will soon be a 90, if my boyfriend comes through for christmas! LoL) which is my agressive tank.
In it I have a needlenose gar, a hejada gar, a sinegal bachir, a blue lobster, a firemouth cichlid, an african knifefish and a pleco.
They are all live-eaters, excet for the pleco, of course.
In my 29 'friendly' tank I have honey gouramis (red and yellow), a debawi catfish, an aquatic frog and some male guppies. This tank is a live plant tank, so I need colorful fish to show up! LOL otherwise I can't see them |

| Growing up my dad and i raised fancy guppies (much prettier then in the stores). So we had anywhere between 7-10 tanks. After I moved out and was on my own, I never got anymore fish (other then a goldfish for my son for awhile). Tired of cleaning/maintaining aquariums.
We also had a tank of other fish like swordtails, zebras, tetras, for awhile. If I got back into aquariums, I'd like to go back to fancy guppies but get some quality ones online rather then in the stores. |

| Dulce, are you getting a larger tank soon? You have way too much fish for a ten gal. Gold fish produce way too much waste and get too large to have them in that small a tank. You might want to look into a 55 gal for 4 golds. If you leave them in there they will just stress and die. |

| Rule of thumb is ten gallon per gold fish. I have a 55 gallon with two goldfish and have to do weekly water changes. I plan on getting one more maybe two but that is all i can put in my 55 gallon and just having four i'll be doing two water changes a week. |

| workingdog, what kind of filtration are you using? With proper filtration you should not be having that much need to change the water. How long have you had the tank set up? |

| I'm not sure what kind of system i have, it came with the tank. My tank has been set up for about two years. I know i could probably get away with one water change every two weeks right now and then once a week when i add more fish. But iv'e been doing it this way for two years now and boy has my fish gotten big. |
