Question Might be getting my aunt's cockatiel...

I might be getting my aunt's cockatiel. She can't really take care of her, because she already has a lot of pets to take care of. My mom was the one to ask her about it, because my uncle is the one who is always saying that he doesnt want her anymore. She said that she would give her to us, cage and all. My mom and dad are still "talking" about it, even though they havent mentioned a word to each other about it since it has been brought up. We got rid of my other cockatiel, because she needed more attention from other birds, and we got a dog. Every time I bring up the bird, my mom goes "Well you wanted a dog." Like what was I supposed to do? Say "Oh, yeah, pup, we found you but can't find your owner, and even though I am attached to you, I am just going to throw you in a dog pound so you can get humanley euthenized since you are kind of bad with new people." Oh please. I knew that bird was crazy and needed a male cockatiel. I was going to hold her back. So I gave my 'tiel to a lady with an aviary so it worked out.

Honestly, I dont think that my parents are going to let me take my aunt's 'tiel.

PS: If anyone can help me out on this one, I will probably be up until eleven pm to twelve pm eastern time.

Do you have time for a 'Tiel? Will the same situation crop up again with this one?

If you can handle the 'Tiel and can give it the life it needs, then there shouldn't be a reason for your parents to say no.

And coming from someone who has begged/puppy-dog-eyed her parents into countless pets, they have to live with the animal too and in some cases pay for the food, vet care, and everything else the pet needs. It isn't just a one person decision, it is a family decision. And actually, once I go over myself and realized that, it was actually easier to talk them into the numerous critters that I have. LOL

I can handle this. I know I can. I love cockatiels, and I love to play with them and give them attention and care. I love picking out good foods, perches, ect. that they need.

Lol, why do you say the other tiel you had needed a male? No animal ever NEEDS a mate. They might want a mate, or even need a companion, but a hen certainly never NEEDS a male. XD (I only say this because it irks me that some people think [and I'm not talking specifically about you, I'm referring to a freind of mine, who I used to think was animal smart...guess he wasn't =P] that an animals sole purpose in life is to mate and it's cruel to not allow them to do so. My friend, whom I just mentioned, actually told me it was cruel that my unpaired female did not have a mate, and that she MUST want babies. I'm just asking this to make sure that you don't think the same way. ;D PETS are not wild animals, and are therefore not supposed to have the sole purpose of living just to produce and raise offspring...)

ANYWAY. I agree, if you have the time to devote to your potential new friend, go for it! If I had the room, I'd have...*counts on fingers* seven tiels right now! I currently only have three, and love them all to death (I'm a tiel fanatic~!), and have been offered many from people who know how much I've researched and how much I love tiels. =)
