We thought we lost Mittens yesterday

No not by Chance.

I woke up yesterday at 11am, yes I slept in. Erik told me that Mittens had gone out back at 9am, and he hadn't seen him since. I was like, "He is probably in the backyard he never leaves the backyard." We checked the WHOLE backyard, the roof, the neighbors yard. My house backs up to a side street, I even checked that street for him. Nothing. We got shoes on and went out front calling his name. Nothing. MITTTENNNSSSSSS. I was more than freaked because I had just lost MK and Mittens is so darn cute that I know he'd run right up to someone and they'd snatch him up. I get 2 houses down YELLING his name and what do I see?

Mittens. Tail swishing in the breeze. laying in the walkway in front of their front door like he owns the place.

"MITTENS. You do NOT live here. Go home!" I said.

swishhhh swishhhh meow.

"MITTENS! RIGHT NOW!"

swishhhhhhhhh

Erik walks up, puts his hands on his hips, and scrucnhes his face.

"Mittens. this isnt your house! Go home right now!"

meow- he jumps up and runs all the way home

When he got there I cracked open a can of wet food, and him and Toby got a treat. He knows where his bread is buttered.

Mittens never goes outside through the dog door, only if we have the backdoor open. I am taking him this weekend to update his shots and I'm gonna get him a breakaway collar, no jingle, with a teeny tiny tag with our address. I just hope no one grabs him, hes so cute!

Here's the runaway himself:

Can I reach those tasty fish from here?

This DOG is on my bed! What? This is CHANCES bed? Wheres MY bed?

I have SUCH a hard life

Sorry no pics of him at the neighbors, too worried to grab the camera!

haha. Yeah it was ironic that it happened so soon after we lost MK. I was confidant that we would find him, it was more of a, "Oh he finally went over the wall out of the backyard, where did he venture to?" type of thing. When I found him it was a relief, but it made me laugh lol.

They just LOVE to torture us, don't they? LOL. Yeah, if he's gonna go outside, he should wear a breakaway collar and ID tag. You might also want to have him microchipped, too, in case he ends up at a shelter. You never know.

He's adorable. I have a black-and-white longhair male named Sammy, so I'm partial .

haha thanks. I'm off work tomorrow so he is getting a collar and tag. I tossed it back and forth about microchipping, but I am only worried about people picking him up and keeping him thinking he is stray. I will stick with the collar for a while. If he was ever missing for more than an evening, I;d be checking the shelters like CRAZY!

Re: We thought we lost Mittens yesterday

Aww, good thing you found him! Although it doesn't sound as if he got very far..

It reminds me of a time when my best friend called me, crying beause she couldn't find her cat Tigger. She lived in a basement apartment and her landlord had some men deliver a new washer and dryer. She had told her landlord to tell the delivery men that she had a cat and to keep all the doors shut...

Anyways, Tigger was missing. We walked her damn neighborhood streets for HOURS, her crying, me calling out and shaking a pounce bottle.

On a trip back to the house to see if Tigger had returned (we left the doors open to the house in case she returned on her own) I found Tigger hiding underneath the couch. She was probably there the whole time.

Jeepers! Darn cats! They sure know how to worry us! LOL
