Re: Best Self Cleaning Kitty Cat Litter Box?

I've never used one, and I've actually never even seen one in use....but I do think they're cool. On my cat forum, this subject came up, and most people have had bad luck with the LitterMaid, though it seems that if you use a crystal-type litter (not scoopable clay litter), it works better. I believe the best recommendation was for the Litter Genie, but it is NOT inexpensive and you need to hook it up to a water source.

Personally, I find a metal scoop (plastic scoops are nearly worthless) and a plastic grocery bag (and my hand to work the scoop) to be all I need to clean the litter box. I'm not so lazy I can't scoop a litter box once a day. Plus I'm cheap .

I've actually seen some really bad reviews on the Cat Genie... lots of reports of it backing up and flooding the box and bathroom with stinking cat sewage water... sick! >X.x;<

Re: Best Self Cleaning Kitty Cat Litter Box?

I used to use a LitterMaid. It works okay, but in all honesty, it's not worth it IMO. I forgot about it easily because it did the job for me, but when the poo piled up in the tray, it got really nasty. And it wasted so much more litter. It was disgusting to clean out. Since then I've switched back to a normal litter box, and as long as I clean it every day or 2, it's fine. Takes like 5 minutes to clean it and it's not nearly as nasty, smelly, and disgusting as the LitterMaid was. Not to mention the LitterMaid got really noisy as it's motor wore out. It was really annoying.
