She doesn't look like a red dun, she has definite black points, and I don't see any zebra stripes or a dorsal on her.
I think she is just a light bay. Here is another light bay I found: |

| Re: I have a Horse. Ok, I have to ask. I was told I have to look around for Tarantula Nests as the Tarantulas come out of their holes at night and pee on the horses feet, causing their hooves to fall off. PLEASE tell me this isn't true because I just told some one they are so full of S*** their eyes are brown. |

| Re: I have a Horse. I searched for info on tarantula pee for a long time and didn't find anything at all, let alone something that related to horses. In fact, I got so few results that I ran a search asking if tarantulas pee at all. I mean, I'm sure they do, but there seems to be a real dearth of knowledge on the subject.
Perhaps this is a career move I should consider. Arachnid urologist... |

| Re: I have a Horse. Good Idea FB. I'm sure the job market isn't flooded.
Ok after your brilliant idea of searching the web. Why didn't I think of that?
This is what I found.
I've heard the "spider urine" myth once from the USA and twice from Latin America, where it probably originated. It seems that there are one or more spider species that urinate on sleeping persons, and the urine, rather than a bite, causes a skin ulceration. In Guatemala this myth centers on a tarantula species locally called araņa de caballo (horse spider) which is said to cause severe hoof and leg trouble in horses and other livestock by urinating on them. In truth, spiders do not have separate urine and feces, and their droppings consist largely of guanine, which is a component of DNA and found in all living things; highly unlikely to cause any skin reaction! http://www.washington.edu/burkemuseu...yths/misc.html
Any horsey(or arachnid) people want to chip in, PLEASE do. I'm just a girl and I'm "disagreeing" with a man so I MUST be wrong.

Chrissy -- I'm sorry I have absolutely no idea, since we don't really have tarantulas in Ohio...sounds like an ol' wives' tale though. |

| Re: I have a Horse. See, they DON'T pee! That's why I couldn't find any info! They eliminate waste, of course, but they don't pee the way we think of it. This is beginning to sound more and more like a fascinating job |

I think she is just a light bay. | Bay's don't have a full dorsal...and in one of the closer up shots I think the same one that shows her dorsal), she does have some leg striping...she's also got the shading on her ears, not just the lining on the inner ear like a bay.
Course, she could be like my boy, who I "think" is a Black Bay with Dun genes in him, because he has some of the dun factors that show on him too, like smutting on his shoulders, a dorsal, the 'light inner ears' and shading on the outer, and black face...
Either way, she is gorgeous, and Chrissy...you need to keep those piccies coming!!!! Quote:

Somehow, I get this mental picture of spiders walking up to horses intending to 'do their business' and the horses just squash them one by one...something tells me that guy is full of it...cause I don't think a horse would stand there for a potentially dangerous biting animal and let it pee on them!!
Spiders don't pee either...

Red duns have zero black points, though . She definitely has a black mane, tail, and black legs. She has a bit of countershading, but I personally still don't see a dorsal(look at the pictures in Chrissy third post of her under the shade, perfect backside picture): http://www.equinecolor.com/dun.html
You know what, I think Chrissy needs to send in some of her tail and mane, and we will all find out what she is!
Chrissy, I have never heard the tarantula story, but I don't have those either. Sounds like a myth though!
ETA: Tex has a bit of shading on the outside of his ears. It is not as noticeable because he is much darker then Bree, however, his ears are definitely more black then the rest of him
Compared to Charlie who has none:

| Re: I have a Horse. From equine color genetics page...
BAY + DUN:
This creates a bay dun, also called a 'yellow dun' or sometimes 'zebra dun'. The body color is usually diluted to a yellow color, although sometimes the body remains very red. This is the most common dun. The dun marks are black
Even if she doesn't have an extremely prominant dorsal in black, I think she's definitely at least got Dun factor in her...I would have had her type of dun wrong in the first post of her being dun...it was late that night...but it's definitely a 'possibility'... |

| Re: I have a Horse. Chrissy, thank you...he is the one that reminds me soo much of Bree. Personality and everything!
Sophie, alright, so I think we can admit we are both right on this. She is a bay, with a pretty good possibility(I do see some of that zebra striping on her front legs now I am looking better, definitely not as noticeable as I normally see them, but definitely some there) of dun factor in her

Horsie!!
If she's not at your house in the morning, you'll know where she is! xD
Actually I just talked my boss into letting me board a horse at his place. Turned him from a horse hater to a horse boarder.
As you said, your cops can be bought off for things, it's the same out here. And so we may soon be getting a new force.
But now, your lucky you caught her!! I WISH I could get that close to a horse, my every-so-often times with horses make me long for more...
If you have a strange 14 year old in your yard with her tomorrow, don't report me for trespassing please!! xD |

| Re: I have a Horse. she looks good! i wouldn't worry about her foundering, that hay doesn't look super rich. if she got finicky with hoof picking and kicked and bit it could be that she's sore somewhere in her legs hips or back or has a stone bruise on her hoof. most horses if they founder will founder on their front feet, and you'll see them standing in a rocked back position usually with most of the weight on their back feet. if you feel her hooves and they feel hotter than normal to the touch then that's a good indication of founder, but like I said I don't think she would founder especially at her young age. |
