Re: Pics of my Sugar Gliders!

Well, yes and no. They take a LOT of work, and their diet alone can be rather complicated. I spend approximately 4 hours a night with my gliders, sometimes more. Plus I have at least 2 of them on me at all times.

And heaven forbid if they get sick. Just to walk into the vet is a minimum $100 bill.

So if you have the time and energy to put into them, then yes, they can be wonderful pets, but if you don't they can be a real headache.

Re: Pics of my Sugar Gliders!

I think Sugar Gliders are absolutely adorable! A few years ago I was going to foster a pair, but the more research I did the more I thought it wouldn't be fair to them. They take a lot of dedication and if some one thinks a dog is a lot of work they know nothing.

Oh! I didn't mean that! For someone to raise and feed a dog CORRECTLY might be close to the same amount of work that goes into raising a pair of sugar gliders

As for their diet, it involves an approved protein source, Most of them you have to order some sort of supplement or vitamins. My protein supplement comes straight to me from Australia. Then a fruit and veggie mix that you have to sit down and figure out the Calcium & Phosphorus ratios for the entire diet to equal 2:1

My protein source includes eggs, High protein supplement from Australia, honey and bee pollen. Its one of the easier diets to follow except the HPS can be kind of hard to find at times

Re: Pics of my Sugar Gliders!

I'm a small scale breeder, if you want to call me that. I give away more of my babies than I sell lol. I give a lot of my babies to rescues as mates for individual gliders. The males in rescues all get neutered, so I don't worry about my babies being bred.

Basically I bought one pair a few months back, but they decided to breed early, so they won't be able to be shipped to me until probably March. Then I bought a pretty female, and then was given 3 others with her, and needed an extra male, so a friend of mine gave me a male to go with my girl.

Basically I'm obsessed with them and can't control myself, lol. There is this one little girl that I want DESPERATELY, but she's 4 grand, and I can't justify spending that on a pet just yet, lol. But she's a VERY rare color and absolutely gorgeous.

I've never owned one so I could say, but the work, effort, and time compared to a dog I would say I guess could be even. All I know is food is a lot more.

Your babies are very cute.

Re: Pics of my Sugar Gliders!

My brother owned one for awhile, they are cute, and make all kind of strange noises. She use to drive our old dog crazy, but like she said they take a lot of work, and handling time. She would only let my bother hold her, and a few people could pet her as along as my brother was holding her.

He ended up giving her to this guy that bred them I think because he was getting sick of her biting him so much, and plus she flew out the window one time. It took us a week to get her back.

Re: Pics of my Sugar Gliders!

Yeah, they take a lot of time.... but watch yourself if you decide to get a pair.... they are addictive. I don't know very many people that have just 1 pair for very long, lol

Re: Pics of my Sugar Gliders!

Wow I never guessed anyone had Sugar Gliders as pets. We get them in the bush around our house and if we are really lucky sometimes we see them. Not very often though as they are rather shy.

What cuties!!! They must be the most entertaining pets ever!!!

I must ask though...do you ever give them a gentle 'toss' across a room to get them to fly???

Laura_Leigh They are absolutely beautiful. Not the pet for me, but I am amazed at how lovely their eyes are, and their pretty markings. I am truly impressed. Thanks for showing them off.
