A great place to start would be at a dog show so you can talk directly with handlers and breeders. You could also try your local purebred rescue...they may have some dogs that are ready today for a generous rescuer, or they may be able to introduce you to a breeder too.
I would either go with a show, or maybe look up on the internet about the Big Book Of Dog Breeds. they always list big-time breeders, handlers and shows for every breed!!!
